7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission, including steering
wheel gearshift buttons |
|
The 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission increases ride
comfort with exceptionally smooth gearshifting. The seven
forward gears allow for smaller shifts in engine speed in
spite of a greater overall ratio spread. The system can also
skip individual gears, changing directly from seventh to
fifth gear, for example, which is ideal for overtaking
manoeuvres. Together with very short shift times and low
noise levels, the 7G-TRONIC significantly increases driving
dynamics and also makes a significant contribution to
reducing fuel consumption. |

- Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) |
|
The Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) supports the driver on
steep downhill drives. A press of the button is all the
M-Class needs to drive downhill at the driver’s desired
vehicle speed as long as the roadholding and incline angle
allow for it.. |

|
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) and Electronic
Traction Support (4ETS) |
ESP®/4ETS enhances safety in critical driving situations. It
is a dynamic handling control system which can
maintain/restore traction and handling through appropriate
intervention of wheel brakes and engine management.
On unpaved surfaces in terrain driving all you need to do is
press the off-road button to get the maximum possible
traction through ESP®/4ETS.. |

- NECK-PRO active head restraint system, front |
|
The crash-responsive NECK-PRO head restraint system is
designed to reduce the risk of whiplash injuries. NECK-PRO
is fully integrated in the front head restraints. The system
supports the head at an earlier stage when it recognises a
rear-end collision. If the sensors register a crash, they
release a pre-tensioned spring that pushes the head
restraints forwards and upwards. After deployment, the head
restraints can be manually returned to their original
position. |

|
- PARKTRONIC parking assistance system |
|
The electronic parking aid PARKTRONIC monitors the front and
rear of the vehicle during manoeuvring and warns the driver
if a potential collision is recognised. If the system
registers an obstruction, it provides a visual signal. As
soon as the distance is less than approximately 35 cm, a
short warning sound is emitted. When the vehicle gets even
closer (less than approximately 25 cm away) a continuous
signal is heard. PARKTRONIC uses this procedure to make
parking easier, even when limited space is available. |
