Active Service System (ASSYST)
ASSYST (Active Service System) is a new innovation from Mercedes-Benz vehicle which takes the actual operating conditions of the engine into account and in most cases permits an extension in servicing intervals. A digital display in the instrument cluster informs the driver how many kilometres can be covered until the next service is due. This gives the driver the possibility to plan the next visit to the workshop well in advance and thus reduces servicing costs substantially.

Acceleration Skid Control (ASR)
Whilst ABS suppresses wheel-locking during braking to maintain the vehicle's course and steer ability, ASR prevents the driven wheels from spinning during acceleration on surfaces which are slippery when cornering. A yellow warning light in the cockpit informs the driver that ASR has been activated and thus tells the driver the car is approaching the limits of adhesion.

Brake Assist System (BAS)
Brake Assist System (BAS) is an electronic system which automatically recognizes emergency braking situations and stopping distance. If a driver initially applies the brakes hesitantly or too softly in a critical situation, the BAS automatically takes over, building up the maximum brake boosting effect in a fraction of a second. Hence the stopping distance of a car travelling at 100Kkm/hour can be shortened by up to 45 percent.

5-Speed Auto Transmission
Five-speed automatic transmissions are electronically controlled and feature torque converter lock-up clutches. Sensors register whether the car is cornering, climbing or travelling downhill and select the ideal gear ratio thereby saving fuel and reducing noise.

Electronic Code System (ELCODE)
Electronic Code System (ELCODE) is the new generation electronic Mercedes-Benz drive authorization system that replaces the conventional mechanical ignition lock.
The heart of ELCODE is a multi-level coding process, which differentiates between a constant key code and a continuously varying authorization code, which cannot crack even by high-speed supercomputers.

ELCODE has the following functions
Automatic locking after starting off: once the C-class has reached a speed of more than 15km/h, the doors, fuel flap and boot lid are automatically locked

  • Automatic locking at standstill: if neither a door nor the boot lids are opened after unlocking, the car locks itself again after approx. 40 seconds and primes the anti-theft warning system, if fitted.
  • Emergency unlocking after an accident: the new system is equipped with a crash sensor which automatically unlocks the doors and boot lid ten seconds after an accident.
